Elkhart Lake, Wis., (Aug. 5, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sportscar Weekend at Road America from the front row in GTD Pro for tomorrow’s race. Daniel Juncadella (Spain) had the wheel of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support for the15-minute qualifying session this afternoon. Juncadella, together with teammate Jules Gounon (France) were in the top two in each of the practice sessions leading up to qualifying. The Spaniard was able to post a time of 2:02.975 good for second in GTD Pro. “I am happy with that qualifying effort,” Juncadella said. “It was a really good lap. The WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG felt strong. I thought it was going to be good enough for the pole, but just came up short. Our main rivals are behind us, so that is good. “The track is super-quick with the repave since last year. I think pole last year was in the 2:05s and we went 2:02, so that shows the difference. There seems to be a narrow line of grip, so no mistakes tomorrow. WeatherTech will have close to 300 guests here for the race, so let’s see what we can do.” The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sportscar Weekend will be televised live on USA, with an early start of, 11 a.m. ET on Sunday. Radio Le Mans will carry the full race at IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com, and SiriusXM Radio (XM 207, SiriusXM Web/App 992).
