Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, (July 8, 2023) - WeatherTech Racing will start from the front row for tomorrow’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Jules Gounon (France) had the wheel of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support for the 15-minute qualifying session. He patiently waited for clear track and then put in a lap of 1:15.103 good for a second place starting position on the GTD Pro grid for he and teammate Daniel Juncadella (Spain). Gounon is racing at the 2.45-mile, 10-turn, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport) circuit for the first time.
“This is an amazing track,” Gounon said. “Qualifying was really fun I really like the first section, Turn 1 through Turn 2, it takes a lot of heart to get through there fast. I think we had a really good WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3 car for qualifying. Let’s see how we match up with the Lexus in the race as they seem to have a lot of pace.”
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix will be televised live on NBC starting at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday.
