WeatherTech Racing Finishes Fourth at CTMP

Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, (July 3, 2022) – WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill) and Daniel Juncadella (Spain) finished fourth in today’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).

MacNeil had the controls of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support for the start of the race. Like last weekend at The Glen, MacNeil had to maintain concentration through two full course caution periods for incidents on the track. He turned the red, white, and blue Mercedes over to Juncadella in the top five in GTD Pro. The Spaniard took over hoping for more action as he was in a position to fight for a podium. Strong driving and good pit work kept the team in contention all day, but they came up just short finishing fourth.

“A shame with the last yellow,” MacNeil said. “I think if that didn’t happen and allow the other cars to splash fuel, we would’ve had a podium car. It was tough, not too many strategy options for us. We had a good run, just not a lot of opportunity at the end. Good job by Daniel and the WeatherTech Racing/Proton team all-race, Lime Rock in two weeks.”

“I was hoping for a more entertaining race at the end with some more action and opportunities to pass,” Juncadella said. “Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and play to our strategy. This is a tough place to overtake especially with our Mercedes-AMG which is quick in free air, but not when you are following other cars. Cooper did a great job to open the race for us. In the end we finished fourth. I had fun and really love this track.”

The IMSA WeatherTech Championship will travel to Lime Rock Park for the FCP Euro Grand Prix, July 15-16.
